Police are trying to trace a potential witness after reports of a road rage incident in Lichfield.
Officers were called to Eastern Avenue near the Trent Valley roundabout shortly after 8am this morning (October 10) after threats were allegedly made by the male driver of a white BMW.
The BMW drove along Eastern Avenue past The Friary School onto the A51 towards the Bowling Green island. A short distance from the island, at the junction with Queen Street, the BMW was in collision with a Vauxhall Vectra. A Vauxhall Corsa and Renault Clio were also damaged. The driver of the Vectra, a man, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The BMW driver – a 31-year-old Lichfield man – got out of his car and was arrested a short distance away. He is now in custody at Burton police station where he will be interviewed.
Officers are now appealing for the driver of an orange Nissan Micra to come forward.
Inspector Jed White, Lichfield Local Policing Team Commander, said: “A section of the A51 was closed off for almost three hours. We’d like to thank motorists and residents for their patience while we carried out necessary inquiries at the scene.
“We’re very keen to speak to the driver of the Micra as soon as possible and want to speak to any other witnesses who saw the BMW driving at speed along Eastern Avenue and the A51.”
