POLICE have reassured concerned residents after an incident involving young people in Lichfield city centre.
Officers were called at 6.50pm on Tuesday (28th January) to Market Street after a report a group of around six males with their faces covered had chased another group for no reason.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson confirmed that no-one was injured and that no threats were made.
Chief Inspector Paul Finlayson, from the Lichfield local policing team, said that officers were working proactively in the area to reassure residents.
“We’ve seen lots of comments on social media about this incident and I’d like to reassure the local community that we’re fully investigating this report and putting steps in place to address concerns proactively across the city with our partners.
“Local officers are carrying out regular patrols and are actively speaking to young people, shopkeepers, local businesses and residents to understand more and to engage with those involved.
“This type of incident is not part of any trend that we’re experiencing locally. We’re well placed to respond to reports of a similar nature and we’re working proactively to address the concerns of local people and businesses.”
