Poor batting display costs Lichfield Nomads

Published:

Lichfield Nomads paid the price for a below par batting performance as they lost by 62 runs against Shugborough CC.

The opening batsmen took advantage of some suspect Nomads bowling and poor fielding until P Turnock was run out.

Two more quick wickets followed for Hughes, who was finding a better line and length and then later Hoddy, getting a reward through a good overhead catch by Pickering.

Heslington replaced Hughes and bowling a very tight line and good length took three wickets including Ball caught and bowled.

By now the batting side’s momentum was stifled. Greaves was rewarded with the LBW wicket of Meredith and when Collins wrapped up the last two wickets, which included catches for Jones and Bourne, Shugborough CC had been restricted to a moderate total.

Any hopes of taking advantage of a good bowling session evaporated as the opening bowling of Caffrey and Shugborough skipper M Turnock quickly went through the Nomads top order.

Pinfield battled and was playing well until bowled and Heslington stayed there, but perished to a poor call by Hughes, while a very good catch by Caffrey accounted for Pickering. Hughes quickly followed bowled by P Turnock.

By then the Shugborough bowlers had done their work. Only Collins stayed firm, he was six not out at the end, in what was a poor performance with the bat by the Nomads on a wet pitch.
