TALKS are taking place around a potential hotel development as part of a city-centre scheme.
A report to a meeting of Lichfield District Council's overview and scrutiny committee will give councillors an update on projects linked to the Birmingham Road Site.
It said that consultants had been appointed to "explore the potential" for a hotel development.
Market testing and feasibility studies will now take place before any final decision is made.
The report added that a range of work had already taken place on the land which had previously been earmarked for the failed Friarsgate scheme.
It said:
"The linear park full planning application was submitted in March this year and includes the re-alignment of the pay and display car park and the bus station on the Birmingham Road Site.
"Revised information has been submitted during this planning process, including changes to the bus station proposal following feedback from the transport authority, Staffordshire County Council, and the masterplan updated to include enhancements to the hard landscape area of the meanwhile use space to ensure consistency from the linear park through to the cinema development plaza.
"Further assessments and reviews are taking place of the re-aligned pay and display car park design to determine future capacity requirements and support the wider city centre car parking strategy."
The report added that the overall redevelopment project had already seen "significant progress".
"The Birmingham Road Site remains a strategic regeneration priority for Lichfield and forms a key gateway into the city centre.
"Significant progress has been made in advancing this regeneration programme through the development of a clear vision for the site, the progression of planning applications, and ongoing stakeholder engagement.
"This regeneration programme of works aims to improve connectivity between the city railway station, city centre and future development areas while supporting economic growth, investment and placemaking objectives."
The updates will be heard at the committee meeting tomorrow (17th September).
