SHAKESPEARE in the Park’s latest production of Henry V was a powerful one.
Under the direction of group stalwart David Stonehouse, this year marked the first time tackling a serious Shakespearean history play – and it was a triumph.
The key role of King Henry V was embraced by newcomer Nicholas Baker, who delivered a fantastic and faultless performance against the backdrop of Maple Hayes’ Italian Gardens.
With iconic quotes including “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more” and “Cry ‘God for Harry, England, and Saint George”, Nicholas gave a bold, authentic and rousing performance.
Other standout actors included Eliza del Cisne, who showed off an impressive acting versatility in taking on four roles, including the exuberant Dauphin.
A firework finale rounded off a wonderful evening that was fully deserving of the resounding applause it garnered.
For the first time in its history, Henry V won’t be the only production for the group in 2025. It will also perform Romeo and Juliet, but this time in Lichfield Cathedral in November. You can find out more here.
