THE rise in cases of winter viruses has led to refreshed calls from health chiefs for people in Staffordshire to get vaccinated.
It comes as experts warn of rising cases of Covid-19, flu, norovirus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Dr Paul Edmondson-Jones, chief medical officer for the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board, said:
“Vaccination is our best defence against the viruses that circulate each winter.
“This year, we’re facing a combination of illnesses that are causing more people to become seriously unwell.
“By getting vaccinated, you’re not only protecting yourself but also helping to reduce the spread of these viruses in our communities.”
At present, Covid-19 vaccines are available to eligible groups until 31st January, while children, pregnant women and adults over 50 can get the flu vaccine.
Meanwhile, older adults, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems are also being offered the RSV vaccine.
Dr Edmondson-Jones added:
“Every vaccination reduces the risk of severe illness and hospital admission.
“By getting vaccinated, you’re making a choice to protect yourself, your family, and the NHS this winter.”
