A ROAD in Lichfield has been blocked after fly-tippers dumped tonnes of rubbish.
Businesses and residents were unable to use Watery Lane this morning (20th January) after a “lorry-load” of waste was left on the road.
The pile of rubbish has blocked both sides of the road across a stretch covering a number of metres.
One company owner in the area said:
“Not only have the individuals behind this blocked the road for local residents, but emergency services are unable to get down there now.
“And to add insult to injury, this is the only road into the countryside centre so you’re stopping around 20 small businesses from operating.”
Another business said this morning’s incident was the latest blow to companies in the area.
“We have struggled for the past 12 months to cope with the constant road closures with the new housing development and HS2 closing the road to Lichfield under the railway bridge.
“Now have been victim to a large fly-tipping offence which has blocked residents and also excluded access to Curborough Countryside Centre.”
Anyone with information on fly-tipping can report it to Lichfield District Council.
