A newly-restored park in Lichfield is set to welcome a royal visitor.
HRH The Princess Royal will visit Beacon Park to see the works that have been carried out as part of the Historic Parks Project on April 24.
Lichfield District Council chairman Cllr Ken Humphreys said: “As part of the recent multi-million restoration project, Beacon Park was one of three city parks to have received a stunning make-over, so it will be looking at its very best when Her Royal Highness arrives.”
Princess Anne will be led on a tour of Beacon Park, including Museum Gardens, the Recreation Grounds, the newly-refurbished play area and the community gardening facility.
Cllr Val Richards added: “As part of the celebrations we will be hosting a Community Games to showcase not only our beautiful park, but also our fantastic local sporting talent.
“Hundreds of local schoolchildren are set to take part in the games, and we will be inviting HRH The Princess Royal to watch some of the races.”
The tour will finish with a short visit to the park’s Discovery Hub, before HRH The Princess Royal is invited to rededicate a statue of King Edward VII to commemorate the visit.
“We are thrilled that the Princess Royal has agreed to rededicate the statue of her great great grandfather, King Edward VII, as part of her visit, which was lovingly restored as part of the recent restoration works, and stands proudly in Beacon Park’s Museum Gardens,” Cllr Humphreys added.
