Twelve teams battled it out for nearly six hours in dry but windy conditions at The Sportsway in the latest round of the Staffordshire 7-a-side Series.

Two pools of six teams played a round robin competition to decide the knock out stages for three different trophies.

The main cup competition was eventually won by Stafford who defeated Newcastle, themselves the winners a week earlier at the Rugeley 7s. The Plate competition was won by Burton Sounds and the Beer Cup went to Burntwood Colts for the second week running.

Thanks go to Ben Holt and Brett Taylor and their team of volunteers for organising the day’s event, the first time Burntwood has hosted a round of the Staffordshire 7s Series, and also to the Staffordshire Society of Referees for supplying the match officials.

The next round is at Barton under Needwood RFC on June 20.
