Signs in Lichfield are warning dog owners in Lichfield to take extra care following a reported case of Alabama Rot.

The disease, which can be deadly to dogs, was reported by a vet last week.

Although vets believe the case has come from a local owner walking their pet at Cannock Chase, Lichfield District Council has erected signs in areas such as Beacon Park confirming the incident and advising people of the dangers posed by the disease.

The sign says: “Although it’s unclear how it’s spread, it seems to be associated with walking wooded areas.

“So keep your dog under close control and be aware of anything they chew or pick up.

“It may also be worth cleaning your dog following a walk.”
