The sixties will be the setting for a new thought-provoking drama at the Lichfield Garrick.

Different Animal Theatre Group will present Be My Baby at the city venue from April 16 to 20.

The show tells the story of idealistic teenager Mary who finds herself single and seven months pregnant. Her mother is scared of the social implications and takes her to a Church of England-run mother and baby home.

With the baby set for adoption once it is born, the girls in the home find comfort in each other while also facing their personal tragedies alone.

The show features song and dance as the girls enjoy respite from their situation thanks to Mary’s radio and the girl-group pop that drifts out of it.

A spokesperson added: “Be My Baby follows Mary and her fellow inmates as they cling to youthful fantasies of romance and marriage, but instead are drawn inexorably towards the harsh realities of adulthood.”

Tickets are available from the Lichfield Garrick website or by calling the box office on 01543 412121.
