A new memorial has been unveiled in Alrewas by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent.
The SSAFA memorial honours those who have supported the charity since it began more than 130 years ago.
It was officially dedicated at the National Memorial Arboretum yesterday (June 2).
General Sir Kevin O’ Donoghue KCB CBE, SSAFA chairman, said: “Through this memorial we pay tribute to our network of volunteers which has been the lifeblood of the organisation since it was founded and continues to play a crucial role in delivering services in the community, both in the UK and overseas.
“The memorial also marks the contribution of SSAFA’s staff who play a key role in delivering our charitable and professional services at both a national and global level.
“Without our volunteers and staff we would not be able to currently support some 55,000 serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their families each year with a variety of needs, and the memorial is there to thank them.”
