STAFFORDSHIRE Police has joined a national month-long amnesty for owners of firearms.
It will run from today (3rd February) to 28th February and is part of a co-ordinated scheme run by the National Crime Agency and the National Police Chiefs’ Council.
It comes after tests found that four types of top-venting blank firearms were illegal. The models are
The four types of top-venting blank weapons are Turkish models Retay, Ekol, Ceonic ISSC and Blow.
During the amnesty, owners who surrender them will not face prosecution and can remain anonymous.
Superintendent Mat Derrick, head of operations at Staffordshire Police, said:
“I would ask and encourage anyone in possession of one of the four types of top-venting blank firearms to safely surrender it at one of our designated police stations.
“Firearm offences remain low in Staffordshire. By supporting and recognising the importance of this campaign, it will further help keep our communities safe by removing them from circulation and reducing the possibility of them being used inappropriately.”
Owners can hand in firearms at Burton Police Station and Cannock Police Station during the amnesty period. Anyone who is unable to travel to a drop-off point can contact police on 101.
