Apples will be the focus of an annual event in Whittington this weekend.
The Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group will be hosting Apple Day celebrations as part of the produce market in the car park of the Bell Inn from 9.30am to 1pm tomorrow (October 18).
Visitors are invited to bring along their surplus apples along for juicing and to take away the results. There will also be activities for children, such as apple bobbing.
Debbie Barnish, Chair of Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group, said: “A special feature this year is a competition to name a lovely new apple that has been discovered on Whittington Ranges.
“According to the Brogdale Trust – the Kentish home of the British apple collection – this is a new variety and ‘a very attractive apple’. As there are only two Staffordshire varieties – Roland Smith and Betsy Baker – this superb new variety is a thrilling addition to our local fruit stock.”
Alongside the juicing, there will also be stalls selling organic Whittington toffee apples and crab apple jelly, while fruit expert Paul Hand will be cooking apple pie.
