Tributes have been paid to one of the founding members of Burntwood RUFC.
Norman Leyshon, who died a week ago following a sudden illness, was one of the five founders of the club.
A spokesman said: “He was the club’s Fixture Secretary for the first 14 seasons of its existence – no mean feat for a new club in the days before league fixtures and merit tables.
“He also kept the playing records during this period for all teams, which he reported on with perfection at the club AGMs. He refereed matches and continued to spectate at 1st XV matches, both home and away, right up to and including this season.
“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and condolences go to his wife and family.”
Norman’s funeral will take place this Friday (March 1) at Gentleshaw Church, beginning at 2pm. The wake will follow afterwards at The Park Gate Inn. Donations can be made to Cancer Research UK either on the day or via John Short & Son, Funeral Directors.
