Hear ye, hear ye – Lichfield’s town crier has beaten off stiff competition to land a top title.

Ken Knowles won the Heart of England Town Criers’ Competition in Alcester.
He beat off 17 rivals to land the accolade after impressing the judges following a procession through the historic town.
Each competitor was required to ring their bell and issue a cry on the subject of their home town. Judges were listening for a variety of factors including content, volume of announcement and clarity of speech.
The retired primary school headteachersaid: “I am over the moon!
“This is my first competitive visit to Alcester so wasn’t expecting it. I am very, very pleased.”
