PEOPLE in Staffordshire are being warned of the risk of quick-fix diet scams.
The county council’s Trading Standards service said diet pills, vitamins, herbal drinks and formulas are increasingly being promoted on social media without scientific backing.
They are also warning of weight loss injections being sold by fake pharmacy websites.
Cllr Victoria Wilson, cabinet member with responsibility for Trading Standards at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“For many of us, the New Year is a time to commit to improving our health, losing weight, or getting fit.
“In doing this, we may be tempted by special offers or products promising instant results, but this isn’t always wise. Many advertised diet and detox supplements don’t work and can be harmful.
“Always follow official NHS advice for health and wellbeing. Sustainable weight loss comes from small, positive and lasting changes to diet and lifestyle.”
