Work is set to start on a new pedestrian crossing in Lichfield.
Streethay residents have been informed of a revised plan for the crossing on the Burton Road (A5127) in a letter from Staffordshire Highways.
Project Engineer Douglas Smith told residents that due to safety concerns and a debate over the ownership of land the project has now had some minor alterations.
He explained:
“I have been unable to verify that the verge on the north side of Dyott Close is highway land. In addition the Road Safety Audit of the scheme has suggested that the bus stop should be linked to the crossing with a footway.
“The Road Safety Audit has also highlighted the existing access to the bus stop is unsuitable on the grounds of poor visibility and for possible conflict between visually impaired pedestrians and vehicles exiting the property opposite. The existing access to the bus stop will be closed off and new hedge planted in the gap. A new access will be opened up on the Lichfield side of the bus shelter.”
Work is set to start on the crossing and alterations on August 17.
