Police appeal after man’s body is found in canal near Lichfield

A man’s body has been found in a canal near Lichfield.

The body was spotted in the water by narrowboaters on the Trent and Mersey Canal near the Crown Inn in Handsacre at around 6.30am this morning.

Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious but they are keen to identify the man.

A spokesman for the force said:

“He was carrying no form of identification so we are keen to trace family and friends as soon as possible.”

The man is believed to be between 60 and 70-years-old, 5ft 8″ tall with short grey hair and a slim build. He was wearing a blue V-neck jumper, blue trousers and brown size 6.5 shoes. Police also described his teeth as being in a “poor condition”.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to call police on 03001234455, asking for the Duty Sergeant in the force control room, quoting incident 60 of 8th August.
