A by-election is set to be called in Lichfield after two city councillors resigned.

Conservatives Michael Fryers and Michael Fryers Jnr had represented the Chadsmead ward but their seats will now be up for grabs once more.

The duo sent letters of resignation, but would have been forced to step down shortly afterwards had they not departed as they had not attended a City Council meeting for six months.

A new vote is set to take place during September for the two seats alongside Cllr Terry Thomas and the Liberal Democrats have already signalled their intention to put candidates forward, while Labour and UKIP are also expected to stand.

Cllr Fryers is set to remain in his post on Lichfield District Council.
