New £600,000 roadworks project set to begin in Lichfield

A £600,000 roadworks project is set to start in Lichfield.

Improvements will take place over 16 weeks on the A51.

County Councillor Terry Finn said: “The investment here is very welcome and is great news for people in Lichfield.

“I’m sure motorists who use this area will notice a real difference in their journeys once the work is complete.”

Resurfacing will take place between Constitution Island at Featherbed Lane and the Bowling Green Island. There will also be repairs to damaged kerbs and ironwork.

The project will also involve some road closures and a temporary 30mph speed limit.

County Councillor Alan White added: “The improvements on this stretch of road are essential and we are committed to keeping our main arterial routes in good order.

“There will be some temporary road closures and diversions during the work, but the first of these closures will not begin until June and our engineers will be making sure dates are advertised on site and alternative routes are clearly signposted.

“With most improvement projects of this scale there will be a certain amount of disruption and we will be taking actions such as working overnight and at off peak times to minimise this.”

The work will start on April 2.
