A COUNCILLOR says he will continue pushing for long-term repairs to a traffic island in Burntwood.
Work has taken place at the junction of Miners Way and Milestone Way.
Cllr Robin Hall, Staffordshire County Council member for Burntwood South, said that he was pleased to see action, but warned a more permanent solution would require significant investment.
"This is not the full dig-down and reconstruction the island ultimately requires. That would cost at least £500,000 and is not currently funded.
"However, this is not a quick temporary patch either. The highways team is carrying out a proper cut-and-break repair, removing the failed sections of road before replacing them.
"This is substantial repair work and should deliver a significant improvement.
"I make no apology for putting considerable pressure on behalf of residents to get this work done. I know some people will argue that it does not go far enough and I understand that, but until funding is available for the full reconstruction, I would rather secure serious repair work now than simply accept the island in its current condition.
"I will continue pressing for the permanent solution. In the meantime, action is being taken and I thank the highways team for listening and responding."
