Paul Ray has been confirmed as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the forthcoming Chadsmead by-election.
The seats on Lichfield District Council and Lichfield City Council have become available after Lib Dem councillor Marion Bland resigned before Christmas.
Mr Ray stood for the party in the local and parliamentary elections last May.
Cllr Bland said her resignation had come with a heavy heart.
“My health has given cause for concern over recent months,” she said. “I am just not able any longer to devote as much time to the role of councillor as I would wish.
“I have been immensely proud of representing the people of Chadsmead over so many years but now is the time for me to step down.”
Mr Ray has lived in Lichfield for 14 years and will hope to retain his party’s only seat on Lichfield District Council.
Cllr Bland added: “Paul would be a brilliant Councillor.
“He lives in Lichfield with a young family and has worked closely with me in Chadsmead over many years helping local people with traffic, housing and planning issues.
“He is passionate about representing the ward and about continuing the work I have done and I am urging all who live in Chadsmead to support him in the upcoming by-election.”
No date has yet been confirmed for the by-election.
So, 2 seats and 1 candidate. I notice Labour have managed to put up a candidate for each. What’s wrong with the Libdems, is Paul Rey the only one in the village?
