Lichfield and Burntwood’s MP has appeared in a light-hearted video explaining the role of Whips in the House of Commons.

Michael Fabricant is joined by comedian Mark Dolan for what he says is the first in a series showing how different parts of Parliament work.

The Conservative MP said: “A number of people regularly ask me what the Whips actually do in Parliament, and why are they are called the Whips?

“So in answer to that, I have made a short two minute film with the help of my friend and comedian Mark Dolan which explains in a light-hearted way what the whips do and what they certainly don’t do.”

  1. Hmmm.

So bribing an MP (“maybe not with money”) to vote in a certain way is okay, if it’s done by a Whip? In fact it’s so okay, that it’s fine to make a little video about it.

    Well hurrah for democracy!
