Freedom Leisure, the company which manages Friary Grange on behalf of Lichfield District Council, confirmed the issue had been behind the disruption.

Facilities have been out of action for much of the week after the issue was discovered on Friday (8th February).

One of the updates on the closure of Friary Grange Leisure Centre

A spokesperson for Freedom Leisure said: “Friary Grange Leisure Centre is currently closed due to a fault which developed on the fire alarm panel early in the evening on Friday.

“We are working with Staffordshire County Council and our leisure partner Lichfield District Council to be able to reopen the facilities as quickly as possible.

“We offer our most sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience – latest updates will be available on the centre web page and social media pages.”

However, the neighbouring Friary School has criticised a lack of communication over the impact on facilities.

I wonder where the Friary School will stand once they become an academy and leave the protection of Staffs CC in the coming months. I suppose if LDC own the Leisure Centre then the school has no right of access or use if they’re no longer a county organisation?
