Chasetown FC Reserves booked their place in the cup final after finishing the job in their second leg at Barwell.
The Scholars already had one foot in the final after a convincing 4-0 first leg victory.
However this was a much improved Barwell performance inspired by their keeper Leon Oswald. His heroics started on eight minutes when he produced a reactive near post save from Chasetown’s Nathaniel Jones.
After 19 minutes Barwell’s Pele Orton put striker Alex Ball in the clear, but he found his path to goal blocked by Craig Deakin.
The much improved Canaries sprang another offensive and launched a high ball in to the box but goalkeeper Mark Wiggins was first to the ball before Orton could connect.
Oswald was to the Barwell rescue again after 38 minutes, clawing away Jack Stone’s header following a Jamie Hawkins corner.
Hawkins and Stone then combined again but this time Stone’s nod was tipped over the bar by the fingertips of Oswald.
The Scholars continued pressure almost bore fruit on the stroke of half-time. Black found Aiton on the right of the penalty area and he passed to Gonzales who saw his goal-bound effort scooped away by the Barwell keeper.
After the interval Chasetown almost had the net bulging. Substitute Andy Westwood unleashed a ferocious shot that produced a decent save from Oswald. Aiton was quick off the mark to follow up but he was also denied by the seemingly invincible keeper.
Barwell had a chance on 55 minutes when James Heathcote’s head looked destined for the net until the intervention of Stone. Appeals for handball from all around the ground fell on deaf ears.
Oswald was then replaced by Barwell debutant Tom Jordan and the newcomer was quick to react to a shot from Aiton before being tested again minutes later by Gavin Saunders.
The game was now flowing from end to end, both teams in search of an opener and it was the hosts who took the lead through Alex Ball. James Heaton was becoming a thorn in the Scholars’ side. After 65 minutes he found Ball in space with a perfect pass that split the Scholars’ defence wide open. Ball calmly finished and the home side were in front.
Barwell raised the tempo in search of a second anf Heaton was in the thick of things again as he headed against the woodwork.
But the Scholars steamed back, still looking capable of grabbing the equaliser. Jordan was busy on his debut, organising his defence to tame the Chasetown onslaught.
In the second minute of added time Robinson set off on a run down the left flank and supplied a dangerous cross into the goal-mouth. Westwood controlled the ball and provided a low pass to the feet of Jonathan Gould who made no mistake to ensure Chasetown went through 5-1 on aggregate.
