Bedworth Ladies 2 Chasetown Ladies 1

Published:

Chasetown put in a performance to be proud of in this tense League Cup semi-final.

The kick-off was delayed for an hour to allow the Bedworth staff to get the pitch fit for play. It was then just as well that the Oval Miners Welfare Ground in Bedworth had floodlights because they were needed when this match went all the way to extra-time.

The fixture came close to being abandoned during extra time as the heavens opened but both teams were playing such great football it would have been a shame.

Chasetown created chances right from the opening few minutes but a very good Bedworth team began to get their passing game going. The meant a great deal of running for the visitors and this would tell later on.

Dani Wright, Nicci Barter and Jodie Kinsey all set up chances for the forwards with excellent through balls but none were taken.

Right on the stroke of half time another good through ball by Wright was latched onto by Jade Arber, who rounded the keeper but saw her shot hit the bar.

Right at the start of the second half Chasetown had the brave goalkeeping of Becky Troth to thank as she raced off her line to block a shot.

The game began to ebb and flow again but the visiting side had a great chance to seal the match at the end of 90 minutes, as a Jodie Kinsey corner caused chaos in the penalty area, but it wasn’t to be and extra time was required.

Troth pulled off a full length dive to deny Bedworth and at the other end Charlotte Bull had a good chance as she raced clear.

After 15 minutes still 0-0 and the running on a heavy pitch was really telling.

In the 110th minute, Bedworth took the lead with a well taken shot from the edge of the penalty area following a partly cleared corner.

Within five minutes they had their second, as a textbook shot across the goalkeeper found the bottom corner.

Chasetown were not finished and a big effort was rewarded with a direct free-kick 25 yards out. Jodie Kinsey obliged by shooting over the wall and under the cross bar.
