The Government has confirmed that a controversial high speed rail line will go ahead.
Campaigners have been battling plans for the £32billion HS2 project which will see the route run through parts of Lichfield and the surrounding villages.
The line was confirmed despite strong opposition from campaign groups along the route.
Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant – who today refused to speak to Lichfield Live on the announcement – had previously called on the Transport Secretary Justine Greening to rethink the project.
Speaking in November, he said: “As Conservatives, we should be conserving the environment and not running trains through virgin countryside.”
