WHITTINGTON were narrowly beaten in their away clash at Highcroft and Great Barr.
Both sides had challenges with the bat as the bowlers enjoyed their afternoon in the sunshine.
After opting to bat first, Whittington lost Shazad Malik for a duck early on.
But they recovered to reach 50 before Evan Hammond was dismissed for ten by Abdullah Abdullah – who would prove to be a thorn in the side of the visitors all afternoon.
More wickets followed as Whittington eventually reached 126 before being bowled out.
Abdullah eventually finished with figures of 8-29 after a fine display of bowling.
But Whittington were not about to lie down and soon put the pressure on Highcroft and Great Barr as they reduced them to 16-3.
Knocks of 36 and 22 from Khalilullah Khan and Waseem Mazhar gave the hosts some stability as they reached 96-6.
Abdullah had his only disappointment of the day when he went for a duck after being caught by Malik off the bowling of Sam Speight.
But it wasn't to be enough as the home side reached the target with two wickets to spare.
Abdulwali Safi was the pick of the Whittington bowlers as he finished with figures of 5-40.
