Burntwood 2nds were quick out of the blocks in their Merit Table match away to Wolverhampton 3rds.

The home side came back in the second half but the visitors stayed clear to win 22-19.

In sweltering heat on a newly-cut pitch which resembled a hayfield, playing conditions were not ideal but the visitors raced into a 17 point lead courtesy of touchdowns from Ryan Percox, Craig Addy and Joe Cowling plus a conversion from Addy.

The hosts replied with a converted try from a close range tapped penalty before becoming much more competitive after the break aided by a plentiful supply of replacements.

They reduced the deficit to five points with their second try before James Holmes secured the win for Burntwood, finishing off one of several swift attacking moves by the back division.

Only last ditch tackling prevented a bigger winning margin although W’ton had the last word with a converted try to conclude the contest.
