A BURNTWOOD business says it has closed after a lengthy planning battle.
Strawberry Fields Farm and Coffee Shop said the decision had been taken with “a heavy heart” to shut with immediate effect.
It comes after the Coulter Lane business was refused planning permission by Lichfield District Council in 2023 to retain an outdoor area for dining use with associated bell tents and kitchen.
Officials said it represented “inappropriate development within the Green Belt” and also raised concerns over the noise impact on neighbouring residents.
An appeal had been launched, but Strawberry Fields has now admitted defeat in the planning battle – with bosses saying they have been left with no option but to close.
In a statement, the company said:
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will not be reopening Strawberry Fields.
“After seeking legal counsel, we have been informed that we cannot trade without breaching the planning consent, which could lead to criminal proceedings.”
They added that they would now to seek to sell off the assets as part of the closure.
“We have encountered many business and personal challenges throughout the past 12 months. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported the team.
“The hard work and passion of our dedicated staff have been remarkable. Together, we have shared unforgettable moments filled with both tears and joy. The friendships we have built are invaluable and will last a lifetime.”
