A Burntwood councillor who lived 190 miles away from the town has resigned.

Brenda Rigby had been a Conservative representative for the Summerfield and All Saints ward.
However, there were calls for her to resign last year after it emerged her registered address was actually in the Cumbrian market town of Alston – a three-and-a-half hour drive from the town council’s offices.
The Labour opposition group had called for the councillor to “do the right thing” and stand down after she also changed her email address and phone number to that of the town council’s offices, limiting the contact residents could have with their councillor.
Cllr Doug Pullen, leader of Burntwood Town Council, said: “Obviously we are very sad to hear of Brenda’s resignation, but understand that her commitments elsewhere leave her no other choice.
“I have already been in touch to personally thank her for her contributions to the council and wish her well for the future.”
