A LOCAL horticultural group is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Burntwood Gardening Guild was founded in 1975 after an initial gathering of around 40 enthusiasts.

It has continued to bloom ever since and meets monthly at the Burntwood Memorial Institute, hosting talks and activities for gardeners of all ages and abilities.

Spokesperson Julie Gradden said:

“From tiny acorns, mighty oak trees grow – and from the seed of an idea to bring local gardeners together has blossomed something truly special.

“We’re proud to have spent half a century sharing gardening knowledge and building friendships within our community.”

The guild’s 2025 programme features talks on subjects ranging from South American botany to hellebore cultivation.

Monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. Admission for guests is £3, while annual membership is £15.

For more details contact Julie on 07496 785758.
