The UK is experiencing an increase in tourism due to the economic climate and according to a Lichfield guest house owner, Staffordshire is in a good position to capitalise on this trend.

Johann Popp, who has recently opened St Johns House B&B in Lichfield, believes that day trips and short breaks are set to increase as families cut back on holiday expenditure.

Johann explained:

“Staffordshire has so much to offer the holiday maker with many National Trust properties and other large estates such as Shugborough Hall, great countryside walks and there are plenty of attractions for  the active family including, Alton Towers, Drayton Manor Park, Waterworld and the Snow Dome.

“My own home city of Lichfield has lots to offer including Lichfield Cathedral, The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum, Lichfield Heritage Centre and not to mention the city centre shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.”

A recent survey by the Times newspaper reported that a third of the public said that they were switching their plans from a holiday abroad to a holiday in Britain. It has even been reported that David Cameron and Gordon Brown are taking their summer holidays in Britain.
