A PROPOSAL for the “reinvigoration” of Burntwood’s town centre has been backed by Lichfield District Council’s cabinet.
A report on the Burntwood Masterplan features ideas to improve the town, including area’s such as Sankey’s Corner.
It includes enhancements to public spaces and connectivity, as well as encouraging future investment.
The proposals for the shopping area would focus on the creation of a “more attractive, active and sustainable heart for Burntwood”.
Cllr Richard Holland, cabinet member for high street and economic development, said:
“Burntwood is a town with huge pride, strong communities and enormous potential – and we want to ensure we continue looking at opportunities to improve and strengthen the town for the future.
“There are lots of ideas and possibilities within the report, but the standout opportunity is the long-term reinvigoration of Sankey’s Corner and the wider town centre, helping create a place that better serves residents and supports future investment.
“This is about continuing conversations, exploring options and making sure we focus on the areas where we can make the biggest long-term difference for Burntwood.”
The council said further work would now take place on “opportunities” to strengthen the future of Sankey’s Corner and the wider town.
