CAMPAIGNERS battling to keep birthing services at a Lichfield hospital are getting ready to march to make their point.
A consultation is currently taking place on the proposals to bring an end to women being able to have their children at the maternity unit in the Samuel Johnson Community Hospital.
Health chiefs say that there are no plans to halt post-natal and ante-natal services at the site.
But the birthing provision – which was halted “temporarily” during the coronavirus pandemic – could be axed for good.
Campaigners from the Save Samuel Johnson Maternity Unit group are urging people to “bring their prams, loudest toys and voices” and join them at a protest march in Lichfield tomorrow (19th July).
Hannah Weaver, from the campaign group, said residents were determined to send a clear message to decision-makers.
“This is about safeguarding care for future generations – we need more support for maternity services, not more cuts.
“The Samuel Johnson Community Hospital unit is a much-loved and much-needed facility.”
The march will meet at Donegal House next to the Lichfield Guildhall at 11am.
