A phenomenal season for Chasetown Football Club was celebrated in style at a fantastic presentation evening at the Banks’s Stadium in Walsall on Saturday.
Ben Jevons crowned a superb season by scooping the Players’ Player and Managers’ Player of the Season awards, the former jointly awarded with Richard Davies who made a great impact on his debut Scholars season on loan from AFC Telford. Richard Teesdale was voted as Manager’s Player of the Season by Charlie Blakemore while Gary Birch took the Golden Boot award as top scorer.
The Reserves’ incredible treble-winning season saw Lee Stretton voted as Player of the Year by both the supporters and manager Mark Swann, who was presented with a special award in recognition of his achievements in guiding the reserves to the League, Cup and Challenge Trophy. Craig Deakin was Players’ Player and Drew Aiton took the Golden Boot.
Jon Gould was voted as Players’ Player for the Under-18 side, but his night was topped when Vice Chairman Alan Smith presented him with his annual Young Player of the Year award. Zach Cogger was top scorer for the Under-18s with Jack Hulin taking the Supporters’ award and Andy Westwood – who made his first team debut during the season – taking the Manager’s award from Andy Turner.
Jack Pearce was a well-received Manager’s Player of the Season for the Scholarship side, Ben Skelton and Oliver James taking the Supporters’ and Players’ awards respectively. Matt Bottley was top scorer for the season.
Sinead Treanor took the Golden Boot award for the Ladies for the second year in a row with 23 goals in 24 games and she also took the Manager’s award from Trevor Barter. Charlotte Bull was Players’ Player, while Jade Arber took the Supporters’ award.
Two special awards were presented by Andy Turner, with Christian Vassallo honoured for his outstanding academic work which has won him a place at Loughborough University and also for his appearances for Malta’s youth international side. James Kelly was also honoured by Turner for his superb academic achievements and effort as part of the Scholarship scheme.
Goalkeeper Ryan Price was presented with the annual President’s Prize by Brian Baker, and it was also confirmed that Crown Cutting Services would be continuing as main team sponsors for the 2011-12 season when the Scholars will again compete in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League and will be joined by local rivals Stafford Rangers, Hednesford Town and Rushall Olympic.
The evening also saw entertainment from Abba tribute band Abbarella and Rob Leigh as Neil Diamond on a hugely entertaining night enjoyed by all present.
