Chasetown student wins European karate gold

A Chasetown Specialist Sports College pupil is celebrating after landing gold at the World Union Karate Federation European Championship.

Seventeen-year-old Matthew Broadhead won the under 18 Individual title in Constanta, Romania.

But to land the title he had to get through the group of 20 competitors before beating the local favourite in the final.

Matthew attends training three times a week and was picked for the England Squad.

A spokesperson for Chasetown Specialist Sports College said:

“Everyone is very proud of our champion.”
