AN operation in Lichfield city centre has seen checks carried out on vehicles.
Lichfield District Council, Staffordshire Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took part in the initiative in locations such as Cross Keys, Bird Street and Birmingham Road.
In total, 20 vehicles inspected for roadworthiness and insurance compliance.
One was immobilised, five were prohibited from the highway until tyre tread or anti-lock braking system repairs had been made, and four were issued with a delayed prohibition, meaning they could be driven home but nowhere else pending repairs.
Cllr Richard Cox, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for community and public protection, said:
"Unsafe vehicles can put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other road users at risk. This operation was about working with our partners to identify vehicles that should not be on the road and taking action before they cause harm.
"I would like to thank our community safety team, Staffordshire Police and DVSA for their work. Partnership operations like this are an important part of creating a safer, cleaner and more welcoming district for everyone."
