Proposed cuts to community services in Lichfield and Burntwood will hit the most vulnerable hardest, a church minister has warned.
Lichfield District Council will make a final decision next week on its plans to save £1.7million.
Among the areas at risk from the Fit for the Future review are a range of community services.
But Reverend Kathryn Cook, from Handsacre Methodist Church, has backed an online petition against the cuts, saying they would be “short-sighted”.
“I have seen first-hand the benefits of the work club and computer courses to those who find themelves out of work,” she said.
“Cuts of this nature hit hardest the most vulnerable in our community and are short-sighted.
“Surely national government’s aim is to get people back into work? Why then is Lichfield District Council reducing the facilities that help people do just that?”
