THE new leader of Staffordshire County Council has been urged to “clear out” councillors who hold prejudiced views.
Cllr Martin Murray has been named acting leader following the resignation of Cllr Ian Cooper as leader.
Cllr Cooper, who will now sit as an independent member, stepped down as leader after accusations surrounding his social media posts.
But Cllr Philip White, leader of the Conservative opposition group at the county council, said Cllr Murray and his Reform UK colleagues needed to speak out.
He said:
“Ian Cooper’s resignation on its own does nothing to address the issues with racism and bigotry in Reform UK’s Staffordshire branch.
“Martin Murray the new interim council leader needs to clear out all other councillors who hold such prejudiced views.
“There has been a deafening silence from all Reform UK councillors in Staffordshire about this issue and they should not think that Cooper’s resignation means they can all move on from this.
“We need to hear from every councillor in Staffordshire whether they support these bigoted views or condemn them.”
