Wide-ranging cuts to Lichfield District Council services are set to get the green light.
Councillors will be told that the Cabinet has approved the majority of measures proposed as part of the Fit for the Future review at a full council meeting this evening (July 9).
The savings have been earmarked as part of a bid to plug a £1.7million gap in the local authority’s finances.
Cabinet met last week to examine the proposals, with only the community transport budget the only area to be saved.
Labour opposition councillor Sue Woodward welcomed the U-Turn on that department but admitted many other services faced a bleak future.
“It was good to learn at the Cabinet meeting that community transport had been saved from the axe,” she said. “But there was little joy elsewhere, especially for dedicated staff who are to lose their jobs.”
Around 20 jobs are believed to be at risk, but the council have not ruled out further cuts elsewhere as the Government begins the process of cutting back the funding given out to local authorities.
The meeting takes place in the Council Chamber at 6pm tonight.
