A Staffordshire County Councillor is urging politicians across the country to reject any raise in their pay.

Cllr Matthew Ellis (Cons, Lichfield Rural East) has no intention of taking up the raise recommended by the Independent Remuneration Panel.

And he believes the decisions of politicians should respect the challenges facing members of the public in the current financial climate.

Cllr Ellis said:

“I’m grateful to the Independent Remuneration Panel for recognising the value of the work we are doing in Staffordshire. But with so many of my constituents struggling to make ends meet I have no intention of accepting their recommended pay rise and I encourage all politicians locally and nationally to do exactly the same.”
