A councillor has admitted that she is “disappointed” at plans to move Hammerwich out of the Lichfield MP constituency.

Plans unveiled by the Boundary Commission this week have proposed moving the ward into the Tamworth region.

But Cllr Val Richards – one of two district councillors representing Hammerwich – believes the area has a strong link with Lichfield.

She told LichfieldLive:

“I am disappointed about this proposed change, although of course it is not to be actioned until consultation with residents has taken place, about two years away. I feel Hammerwich has a well established relationship with Lichfield which it does not have with Tamworth.

“Having said that, Chris Pincher the Tamworth MP seems very able and has certainly already offered to give Hammerwich any help he can should this change go ahead.

“I feel that local residents main worry could be whether this change affected the District Council, which of course it does not – Hammerwich will remain within Lichfield District Council’s boundary.”

The proposals have also been criticised by Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant.
