A COUNCILLOR has welcomed works being carried out to repair a road in Lichfield.
Watery Lane has been blighted by potholes after the route was used as a cut-through by motorists trying to avoid recent road closures, as well as HGVs serving new housing developments.
Work is taking place on the route, with Cllr Janet Higgins, Reform UK representative for Lichfield Rural West at Staffordshire County Council, saying that she hoped the repairs would make a "noticeable difference" to residents and businesses.
She said:
"The current works on Watery Lane are for road repairs alongside clearance of the verge grips.
"Highways have also confirmed that they have been in contact with local businesses and the ambulance hub ahead of the road closure.
"I know the condition of Watery Lane and the potholes have been a source of frustration for residents and businesses alike. While there is still more work to do, it is good to see these repairs finally being carried out.
"I hope they will make a noticeable difference for everyone who uses the road."
