A COUNCILLOR has welcomed plans to redevelop the blue hoardings site in Burntwood.
The site off Milestone Way has been earmarked for a new retail and leisure scheme.
It comes after the site had sat empty for a number of years.
Labour’s Cllr Sue Woodward said she was delighted to see a positive future ahead for the blue hoardings site.
She said:
“This is a really exciting time for Burntwood and a huge step change in opportunities for the town’s residents.
“It’s been talked about since before the beginning of this century. While some said it would never happen and that the site should be given over for more housing, a number of us have kept the faith and have been pushing for more appropriate plans here.
“It is good to know that things are moving in the right direction at last.
“Will this be the end of those horrible blue hoardings? Let’s hope so. The fact that this site is best known for the barriers around it says it all.”
Under the proposals put forward for the six-acre plot, three drive-through units and two “large spaces for retailers or leisure operators” would be built.

Cllr Darren Ennis, leader of Burntwood Town Council, said:
“It’s brilliant to see this kind of development coming to Burntwood.
“Not only does it bring quality jobs to the area, but it also delivers the kinds of businesses our community both wants and needs.
“I’m excited to see which operators this new development will attract to the area.”
