Councillors say they are determined to fight for the best HS2 deal for Lichfield residents.
The controversial rail route will cut through parts of the city and surrounding villages when it is built.
A meeting of Staffordshire County Council saw unanimous backing for a motion stating that the authority would:
- Continue to raise concerns over the impact of HS2.
- Build on experience from phase one to reduce impact of phase 2a.
- Ensure the county’s voice is heard in terms of environmental mitigation and compensation for residents.
- Engage with Government and HS2 Ltd to gain maximum economic benefit from the high speed rail line.
Cllr Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for economy, environment and transport, said: “It is vital we ensure our voice is heard loud and clear.
“As a council, we recognise that HS2 is going to happen and we are absolutely committed to getting the best deal for our communities.”
