Councillors reject plans for new Alrewas housing development

Councillors have rejected plans for a new housing development in Alrewas – despite a report calling on them to approve it.

Councillors have rejected plans for a new housing development in Alrewas.

A report had suggested approving the project, but members of Lichfield District Council’s planning committee voted against proposals to build 121 properties in land off Dark Lane.

There had been strong opposition locally to the project amid concerns over highway safety, but a council officer had said the refusing the development on these grounds “could not be justified”.

Conservative councillor Ben Rayner said locals had “good reason to celebrate” after the vote and insisted that the development was “inappropriate”.

However, Lichfield Civic Society warned that the decision to reject the recommendations of the officer’s report could be costly:

Dark Lane res devt at Alrewas refused tonight by Lichfield DC against officers' advice Dangerous if Appeal is lodged Expensive if LDC loses
