A COUNCILLOR says artificial intelligence will be “a major priority” for him in his cabinet role.
Cllr Robin Hall, Reform UK representative for Burntwood South, has taken on responsibility for economy and skills at Staffordshire County Council.
He said that he had been “impressed by the commitment, skill and ambition of officers” and work already taking place to support growth.
But he added that AI opportunities would be a key focus for his portfolio going forward.
Cllr Hall explained:
“Having now spent a few weeks in this role, I have been greatly encouraged by the professionalism and expertise of our officers and the clear ambition they have for Staffordshire’s economy.
“Staffordshire has real strengths, from major employers to the thousands of small and medium-sized businesses that are the backbone of our local economy.
“AI is one of the biggest opportunities of our time, but it is also a risk to places and businesses that stand still. Many larger organisations are already moving quickly.
“We already have training and support available and my priority now is to ensure smaller businesses are aware of it, can access it and are ready to benefit.
“AI will transform the way we work and do business. My task is to help make sure Staffordshire is ready. It cannot be ignored.”
