THE curtain is going up on a new production from a local group.

Cannock Wood and Gentleshaw Musical Society (CWAGMS) will bring Disco Divas and Killer Queens to the stage at Burntwood Memorial Hall from this evening (19th June) to 22nd June.

The feel-good musical comedy features hits including Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing, Gloria Gaynor’s Don’t Leave Me This Way and Earth Wind and Fire’s Boogie Wonderland.

Set in the heart of Blackpool at The Trocadero Club, the story follows Chrissy, a determined woman juggling running the family nightclub, raising her teenage son alone, and trying to keep her demanding mother happy.

Sharron Burns, from CWAGMS said:

“We’re thrilled to be starting this new chapter at Burntwood Memorial Institute

“Since our humble beginnings performing Dick Turpin in our local village hall back in 1977, CWAGMS has grown from 35 performers to a vibrant company of nearly 100 members.

“While we’ll always treasure our years at the Prince of Wales in Cannock, this move gives us an exciting opportunity to reach new audiences and continue what we’ve been doing for 47 years – bringing high-quality musical theatre to our community.”
